It was in Salem, Massachusetts that the best-known writer of Scarlet Letter was born in 1804. Nathaniel Hawthorne was the famous author of Scarlet Letter that has acclaimed many novel awards and world recognition. The life of Nathaniel Hawthorne was difficult during his early years. At a very young age, he lost his father and his mother went into seclusion. His family did not remain in Salem since they have moved into Maine where Hawthorne attended Bowdoin College from 1821 to 1824.
In order to survived, he worked as writer from publishing companies and contributed to various periodicals. He did a full time writing job from the Democratic Review magazine wherein the publisher was able to release at least 2 dozens of stories written entirely by him.

Nathaniel Hawthorne is particularly known for “The House of Seven Gables” published in 1851, “Blithedale Romance” in 1852, and “The Marble Faun” released in 1860 (Porte, 115). The topics of the abovementioned novels are romantic in nature as the author was known to depict the concept of romance and love in all his writings. Apparently, most of the stories written by Nathaniel Hawthorne were set in England wherein he usually got to explore all the hidden emotions and motivations of all the characters that were included in the stories. It can be adduced that all the stories of Hawthorne although romantic in nature is deep in thinking. An in-depth analysis must be made in reading all the stories in order to understand the meaning that is being conveyed upon by the writer.
Aside from being a writer, Nathaniel Hawthorne was appointed as Liverpool, England’s consul during presidency of Franklin Pierce. It was found out that Pierce and Hawthorne were classmates during their college days and upon winning the presidency, it was Hawthorne that wrote the campaign biography of the former. He died 19th of May 1864 in Plymouth during a trip with his friend Pierce (McFarland, 89).
