Free «Influences in the Teaching Environment» Essay Sample

Disruptive behavior and negative classroom setting presently and even in the past have had influences on the teaching atmosphere. The learning environment has a strong impact on the students and teachers. The essay will identify ten of these negative classroom situations and disruptive behaviors. To start with, constant school non-attendance is a disruptive behavior (Iwata, 1997). The unsettling behavior influences the education environment as there is an unambiguous connection between classroom performance and absenteeism. The disruptive behavior can make a student be confused when he or she attends class sessions after periods of absenteeism. Such students will keep inquiring and wondering what happened during his or her absence. The problem can rise from the lack of parental responsibility or disorganized family life plus other social factors that may influence individual academic performance. The recommended solution to the problem can be meeting of parents and teachers to find out the reasons of the problem. In addition, classroom management technique can be developed to solve the problem of disruptive behavior.

Racial division can also be considered as a negative classroom condition in the teaching environment (Tinzmann, 1990). Students can be affected by the background of their teachers. A teacher who is of a different race than students can affect the teaching environment. Most students will find it comfortable to be taught with teachers from the same racial group. They find the lessons engaging and are free to ask questions. The result is that the students will find it as more favorable condition in learning as they can make contributions to the class. Having teachers from a different race or background can make students nervous. This can influence the teaching environment as students will tend to develop a specific attitude towards such teachers. The solution would be finding a teacher with similar background or race to make students relaxed and have good concentration in the class.

The accommodation is another influence in the teaching environment. In cases where the classrooms are too large, a teacher might find it difficult to teach each student. The classrooms which tend to be overcrowded have a powerful influence on the teaching environment. Teachers and students need momentum and an interesting lesson plan which will motivate and makes them understand that the teacher teaches in creative ways. Classes that are large make the teacher beleaguered, and the same happens to students who become anxious while asking questions. The large classrooms can create environmental disturbances as some students will not respect or get along with other students who want to learn. Consequently, such students will not be fascinated by the class curriculum. The solution can be to change the class environment, which is recommended for better classroom management.

Disruptive behavior plays a vital role in students’ interaction and self-expression when they are with their peers. There are many students that will act so as to get attention either negative or positive. Their behavior requires teacher’s attention and the way they handle it can have a significant impact on the class. Students should be taught about the responsibility of their actions. This is the key aspect of academic success and character development. Students that have disruptive behaviors can influence the teaching environment. Moreover, they can influence the other students focus, and this can affect the way they perceive information (Tinzmann, 1990). Therefore, teachers need to employ classroom management system so as to control the disruptive students.

Some students have egocentric personalities. Their disruptive behavior may influence the teaching environment. The personality of such students damages the teachers’ attempts to convey messages or information to the students. This is a significant problem as such students consider themselves superior to the other students in the class. They tend to have unfriendly behaviors and their minds are affected due to the fact that they develop resistance to the knowledge that teachers try to broaden. Such students ignore their teachers as they do not consider them to be appropriate for the teaching process. The students can even misbehave and not seriously consider teachers. Their superiority nature can lead them to quarrel with other students. The result is the disturbance of the teaching environment. In addition, students can also be coerced to behave in a given manner (Tinzmann, 1990). Therefore, they will tend to behave in uncharacteristic way. Disobedient students can turn their rage into the maltreatment with other students. Moreover, it can lead to lack of apprehension and substandard academic performance. The unwanted behaviors of the students lead to failure and lack of understanding. When it happens, the teacher is be forced to repeat same points severally.

In conclusion, the teaching environment can also be influenced by having non-certified instructors. These instructors do not have the qualities or attributes for teaching. They can make a negative effect on the teaching environment as students will not get the knowledge in the right manner. Other disruptive behaviors or negative classroom conditions that can influence the teaching environment include thwarted desires, unmet needs, temptations, avoidance, attempts to transgress, poor behavior choices, inappropriate habits, and neurotic behavior (Iwata, 1997). The conditions can be controlled or eliminated in a classroom environment by adopting a reinforcement program. This requires the implementation of behavior modification plans that set out clear programs on classroom rules or instructions that have to be followed by all students.
