Comparison and Contrast of Education Disciplines

For class room management, three important education disciplines are mainly considered by teachers: Harry and Rosemary Wong's Pragmatic Classroom Management Plan, Kagan, Kyle and Scott's Win-Win Strategies, and Ronald Morrish's Real Discipline. To understand each in contrast to others, the following matrix lists down strengths and weaknesses and advantages and disadvantages of each to assess which I agree with the most.

The students will behave according to standards if the standards and procedures are laid in front of them properly and they are taught to comply with them (Cangelosi, 2007).

The focus is on life skills whereby students are taught anger management, good judgment, self control, empathy and impulse control (Charles, 2007)

Teachers through their caring, social skills and well behaved attitude can shape discipline in students (Harden, 2007).

Strengths

It makes the responsibility of the teachers to teach them how to behave in the standard way rather than just expecting them to be in order

The life skills are required for a successful life of a student

Life skills are taught whilst establishing procedural and responsibility rules

Influence is used to infuse discipline rather than persuasion

Rules and regulations are not disregarded

Weaknesses

It gives too much emphasis on procedures and standards which may create a closed environment in the class room

The focus is too much on the cause which should be the same for the consequences of disruptive behavior as well in order to mould it according to what is expected of the students

It leaves out the room for strict attitude, as it focuses more on insistence.

Advantages

The students are acquainted with procedures strongly which allows them to behave as required and leaves less room for disruption

Without teachers establishing a strong position, their influence may be limited. For some rules they would have to strict for implementation

Despite of the disadvantages and weaknesses, I agree with the Kagan, Kyle and Scott's Win-Win in Strategy as it gives the students the experience and the skills that not only keeps them in line with the school's procedures but also yearns to make them better human beings and lead successful lives.

The strategy makes the students to be responsible from within to realize the importance of the rules and procedures.
