Since the Chinese culture and some ethics and ideas are based on westernization, their leaders were keen to use western techniques to modernize and improve their military. Westernization was used by the Chinese to envisage and forecast the country's development and was commonly referred to as self strengthening movement. Westernization in China differs from that in West Asia due to isolationism. Isolationism is a technique used by the Chinese government to try and resist the adaptation of western culture in their own culture (Yuann & Inch, 67). The May fourth movement was caused due to a weak response to the treaty of Versailles mainly due to the Shandong problem. The movement demanded that the Shandong province be returned from Japan to China. Chinese nationalism rose, changing from political draft to cultural activities and formation of populist bases from intellectual elite bases. Westernization in China has enabled growth of technology assisting easier communication and production. The new cultural movement in China has lead to acceptance and adaptation of other cultures especially those from the west. For example the people of China nowadays have adopted the dressing style of the American and European code. The rights and privileges of people in Hong Kong differs from those in China in that properties in China are owned communally while those in Hong Kong are owned privately (Yuann & Inch, 77). The greatest global impact from China is its adaptation of karate which is a cultural aspect. In the recent time, karate has being largely adopted throughout the world.
