The Beatles released the song in 1968. It was in the album titled the White Album. The main message of the song in the first stanza and it is that everybody in the world wants change. The song urges people to change in a peaceful manner. “But when you talk about destruction, don’t you know you can count me out” (Elyrics,1). In the second stanza, the message is that if the leaders have a plan, then all people will contribute to its implementation. However, people have to change their mentality first. “But if you want money for people with minds that hate, all I can tell you is brother you have to wait,” (Elyrics,1). The last stanza says that changing the constitution is not enough; if they start by changing their minds, then it will be easy to change the institutions. The main overall message of the song is that if they change their minds positively, violence will end and peace will exist.

The action the song speaks out against is fighting in the streets. It focuses on those citizens who usually criticize the government. It asks them whether the alternate plans they suggest the government to use are better than what the government offers. The song also speaks against violence. Protestors speak about love and harmony, and then go to the streets displaying pictures of people who supported killings, such as Mao Zedong. By doing this, these protestors do not mean what they preach (Wicke and Fogg, 110).

Peace cannot be acquired by doing acts of violence. When someone acts like that to his enemies, he/she makes the situation even worse than before. According to the song, a “revolution” that is influenced by such negative mentality cannot improve the society (AOI, 1). The song recommends that one should change his/her mentality as an individual. Even if we change the constitution, war will not end unless we have a peaceful mentality.
