It features a group cast of international starring Leonardo DiCarprio, Joseph Gordon, Ken Watanabe, Tom Hardy and others. DiCarprio, a thief-cum-spy uses the name Dom Cobb, and his main work includes extracting important business information from his innocent targets while they are deep asleep and dreaming. He was alleged to have murdered his wife Mal; he becomes so much wanted to an extent of being unable to visit his children (Fleming). The inception idea is planted into the minds of the target subconsciously when cob is offered an opportunity to regain his old life. The scientific tool (totem) had been invented specifically to invade the dream of others; it took six months polishing out the inception script..
The plot of the movie revolves around an array of business partners. The movie was at first seen as a horror film that was inspired by the idea of logical dreaming and dream incubation. Dom and his business partner Arthur, take on to this activity of illegal information extraction from their target dreamers. The totem that each extractor carries has unpredictable character that is unknown by others except the holder. It is specifically personalized to determine whether they are in another person’s dream (Gallagher). Cobs efforts are at a time in the likelihood of being sabotaged by his dead wife as she manifests herself in his dreams. At one of his many incidents Cobb is approached by a wealthy man Mr. Saito who turns to be one of Cobb’s targets. Saito intends to break up the large firm of his competitor Mr. Maurice Fischer by planting the totem idea to his son Robert who was to inherit the empire after his ailing father dies. The promise for this action was, if Cobb managed to get through with the plan, Mr. Saito will influence the murder charges against him and have the re-enter grant to the United States where he will have a chance to join up with his children. Despite the persistence of Arthur that the plan is not viable, cob agrees to the job and went ahead to gather his team consisting of; Tom an identification faker, Yusuf a chemist who was makes a concocts that stabilize the dream, and Ariadne a design student tasked with the dream landscape. Saito insists to be in the team as an observer but at the same time ensuring the task is successful. While the plans for the inception are made, Ariadne comes to discover Cobb’s guilt of Mal’s suicide and his disconnection with the kids and the fact that he is a fugitive.
The job is done and after Maurice death, the son (Robert) accompanies his father’s body from Sydney to Los Angeles, while aboard the flight, Cobb sedates him and the team brought him to a shared dream. The team makes a success in abducting Fischer and Mr. Saito is wounded mortally. As a result seductive strength a profound subconscious level where one may lose the grip on reality and get indefinitely trapped. Yusuf remain in level one driving the van along the streets while a team member, Arthur enters the dream that takes place in a hotel and a failing house. Yusuf evasive driving manifested as distorted gravity effect forcing Arthur to invent a kick using the lift shaft.
Saito succumbs to his wounds and Cobb’s projection of mal sabotages the whole plan by killing Fischer by shooting. At limbo, Cobb confronts a projection of mal who tries to convince him to stay with her where he rejects and admits that he was responsible for her death. He uses the inception idea t assist her get out of limbo in their shared dream experience and manage to inspire her the idea that the world is no real place. Once she comes to reality, she discovers that she was still dreaming and needed to die for her to wake up. Cobb wishes to remain in limbo to search for saito. Fischer is defibriated by earnes by bring him to the level three mountain fortress, he enters a safe room and accept the idea to split his Fischer’s commercial empire. By leaving Cobb behind, the team manages to escape back to the dream. Cobb finds saito eventually who has been in limbo for decades waiting for the dream time. They help one another recall their agreement as they awaken in the flight. Cobb passes through the U.S. custom department where he reunites with the kids. He once again tries to test reality of the totem with his children but they distract it before they see the results.
The entire movie keep viewer curious of whether it’s about reality or dreams, but the director is basically playing it straight as a dream I think is a huge clue that Cobb is stuck in an endless sequence of dreams within dreams. He's incapable to escape the dream world because rather than kicking himself outside the dream, he kicks himself forth and back amid dreams endlessly. The inception idea is reinforced by the emergence of his wife in his dreams; something I dispute with that she is a manifestation of his guilt. In the dream, Mal appears with the main point of breaking his dream. So when Mal actually dies in the end, it represents Cobb has given up on the suggestion that he is trapped in the dream. He struggles not to wake up an indication that seems accepts his fate with Mal's death.
We are not shown the reality of inception in the dream though it is conceivable that the subject is simply Cobb and he may have been in someone else’s dream. The totem idea is a faultless way for only one single individual to predict and identify the behavior of others. There is no point that reality is actually established as there is no one thing in the movie that the audience actually know that the characters don’t know. We are taken from one point A to B without actually knowing how we got there.
