The production is about a young village boy called Giovanni who is undergoing hard times both at school and in his social life because his father, who went on a hunting trip has not yet returned. Coupled with this is the fact that his mother had fallen ill recently and therefore, Giovanni must, besides attending classes at school, manage their printing press. Exhausted from the challenges of life, Giovanni decides to take a nap in the woods where a train comes from the sky and on board, he finds his only long time friend Campanella. After boarding the train, the two friends start a journey through the stars where they come across different worlds comprising fantastic characters. It is out of this train journey that the two friends learn a lot about life and its major purpose. It is through the play that symbolic meanings can be revealed in the production. The play is therefore an astounding piece of animation in which its characters are animals.

The setting of the play was simple but included a lot of combinations. The blinds made by the lighting and the windows in the play were well set. The customers chosen in the play well matched with its origin, Japan, where the author of the play Kenji Miyazawa, was raised. The costumes resembled the Japanese High school uniform and they clearly matched with the characters who wore them. The uniforms worn by the people on the platform and the birdman were also fascinating. The lightings depicted in the play made the play to look realistic and interesting especially in the incidence where the Biology teacher clicked the projector and the lights bombed up. The red lights exhibited by the Scorpio were also very interesting. The movements in the play also had a lot of significance, for instance, the movement of the train to heaven simplified the journey of Christians from the earth to heaven as believed by Christians unlike Campanella who was a Buddhist.
The production achieved its objective because it clearly exhibited the different characters of people and the different worlds that they lived in. what surprised me was how the nun explained that heaven was reserved for all people regardless of the fact that one was a believer or not. The whole production tried to depict how the whole play was about and it captured my minds to think about the meaning of the apple and milk. I tried to imagine what was the relationship between the milk way and milk. Generally, the whole play was not impressive but it gave me an ego to think more about its symbolic meaning. The beauty in this dream like art work in the play and its animation cannot be denied by any viewer despite the fact that they may not appreciate the story.
The play gave me a theatrical experience which urged me to think and reflect more about the play. Apart from giving me some meanings, the play gave me a chance to be able to think more in order to be able to reveal about the symbolic meanings which could not have been understand without doing a whole analysis of the play. This was unique because watching the play without analyzing its symbolic meaning could be a waste of precious time. After watching the play, the whole perception about it changed because its meaning could now be well understood. Unlike other plays which had direct meanings, this play required the viewer to ponder deeply to be able to reflect it meaning.
The production is production is coupled with both nihilistic and religious imagery and it presents the viewer with a powerful treatise on life and death. It is through the play also, that symbolic meanings about the apple can be revealed. The apple in the play therefore implied the knowledge obtained from the Garden of Eden. By showing the apple in the play and the whole production, the writer wanted to help the farmer. The characters in the play sacrificed for other people just like in Christian teachings whereby Jesus had to sacrifice for human kind by being crucified for the sake of mankind. In this play for instance, Campanella sacrificed for Zannelli while the young man sacrificed for the girl.
The woman across the river may have been Campanella who was in the form of a ghost and the fact that the woman was across the river implied that there was transition from one world to another (from the world of the alive to the world of the dead). On the other side, Campanella took another train because she was not a Christian and the train she had boarded with her friend was carrying Christians who were heading to heaven. The milk way and the apple represented knowledge which was given from believers to the non believers just like the way the nun was doing in the train.
