A data consumer is a group, individual, and applications that receive collections of data and utilize it for defined purposes. The data, utilized by data consumers, is always specified for the given purposes. It is specific to consumers and may not be used by other consumers to perform their duties. Data consumers rely on every aspect of the collected data in order to perform their duties and achieve defined goals. Deviations from the guidelines of the data would lead to underperformance and the ultimate failure to deliver the required results. There are numerous data consumers at my school. The various data consumers coordinate with each other through the received data to ensure that the school achieves its set targets. The data consumers in the school include teachers, students, parents, and the board of directors. Teachers form a vital part of the school. They mostly receive and utilize data, relating to students and student activities while in school. They utilize these data to ensure that students are molded into responsible individuals who are able to offer effective leadership in the future. Students form the largest part of the school. They receive and utilize data, relating to academic performance and school activities. The school activities are specifically defined, relating to date, time, and place. The students have to adhere to the guidelines of the data and correct on their weaker areas in order to achieve the targets, set by the school. The data would offer them guidance on how to behave while at school. Parents are other vital data consumers. They receive and utilize data, relating to the performance of their children, the conduct of their children, and significant parents meetings. The data enable them to work closely with teachers in order to ensure that the students are on their right track and are determined to deliver the best performance. The board of directors, which governs the activities of the school, receives and utilizes data, relating to the development projects the school is undertaking and the number of students in the school. Thus, it utilizes such data to plan for the school and develop it further.
Administrators rely on various types of data in their efforts to support decision making in faculties, courses, and students. The data helps them get the facts on the exact courses of action they are supposed to pursue in order to ensure that the appropriate sectors are on an upward trend. Administrators rely on data such as the number of students, changing job market demands, availability of the required facilities, level of performance, and the availability of adequate space. Decisions, relating to the improvement of faculties would emanate from data such as the changing job market demands. Administrators would rely on this data and come up with vital ideas, relating to the improvement of this sector. They would introduce newer faculties and merge others into one unit in cases, where the market demands dictate that way. The data, relating to the changing job market specifications for students, would enable administrators create more current faculties, to ensure that the students, graduating from such institutions, are acceptable in the job market.
Data, relating to technological changes, would improve decision making in the faculties. Each faculty would be equipped with the current equipment and material that would facilitate effective transfer of skills to students. The level of performance would be a vital piece of data to guide in decision-making to the courses offered. Each course would be gauges, according to student performance. Courses that are perceived to be underperforming would be scrapped or improved further. The administrators would make decisions, relating to the facilities that are necessary to improve performance of the specific courses. The number of students in the institution would also form part of the vital data needed. The administrators would make effective situations, relating to students only if the exact number is known. This would be vital in the making of decisions such as hiring of additional lecturers to ensure that all students are fully attended to. Data on the availability of resources, used in various faculties and courses, would enable the administrators make decisions, relating to the acquisition of more facilities to facilitate leaning in the institutions.
In my school, data is related formally. The entire school uses formal means of communication, especially in circumstances, where the data is perceived to be highly official. Informal relation of data could only occur, where the parties involved are extremely close. The data is first posted on the school website, as it originates from the highest offices in the institution. This is to ensure that order is upheld in the process of communicating and sharing order within the institution. It is also vital because it would help to curb conflicts of interest in the school. The higher offices are the ones that are responsible for receiving initial data before passing it to other departments. The departments would receive data from the higher offices and share it where necessary. They would seek for amendments in cases, where the data seems to give inadequate facts. They would modify the data into a form that would improve operations within the school and ensure that every program is running as scheduled.
Departments in the school relate their data both formally and informally. Informal relation of data occurs, when closely related data consumers communicate to each other on matters, relating to their departments and the improvements they would want to make. This is especially done in the normal course of business, as they go about their daily activities. Formal relationships of data usually occur through official meetings. The heads of different departments convene meetings that would be vital in the sharing of vital data. This brings about the coordination of efforts and togetherness in the achievement of common goals in the organization. Teachers and students relate their data both formally and informally. Students could interact and share with their teachers in a friendly manner, making data relation informal. This commonly occurs in classes in the course of learning. Formal relationship of data occurs in the course, where the student-teacher relationship is regarded as being only official.
The school is faced with problems of data deficiency. For instance, some data is always unrealistic and unachievable, some data is always incomplete due to distortion, and data received from computers could be hacked, leading to loss of secrecy. In some instances, the school receives data that is unrealistic and likely unachievable. This is a worse deficiency because it lowers the morale of everyone in cases, where the goals, being pursued, basing on the data are not achieved. It exerts unnecessary pressure on individuals within the institution, making them work for unrealistic goals and, sometimes, make unrealistic decisions. This type of data is deficient in the sense that it misleads the whole school and, sometimes, lowering the tempo. The school suffers from data hacking.
This makes data that is used within the school to lose the secrecy. It is widely exposed to other individuals who are likely to cause damage to the entire institution. This means that the data cannot be used again for vital internal decisions because individuals who do not form part of the school know it. These could be enemies planning to pull down the performance of the school. Data within the school is exposed to distortion. This makes it deficient because the exact meaning is lost. Distortion is common in situations, where data is being communicated from one person to another via word of mouth. The entire statement is understood the opposite way and the original meaning is lost. The deficiencies make the data that is communicated within the school unreliable in some instances. In cases, where vital data has been exposed to unauthorized individuals, alterations have to be made, hence, delaying the process of decision-making within the institution. Details, relating to the information, have to be altered in some instances, to make it acceptable and usable for decision-making within the school. Distortion makes it difficult for data consumers to get a clear meaning of what is being communicated. This renders the whole process of communication and implementation of decisions difficult.
