Free «Comparison of Two Poems» Essay Sample

“And I would do anything for love I’d run right into hell and back” indeed love is a powerful emotion that makes all men and women in the world including the rich, powerful, intellectuals, politicians, capitalists and bureaucrats among others go crazy in the name of love. This is clearly shown in the poem as love makes the impossible to happen such as “making magic with his own hands”

Every verse explains two things that the man would do in the name of love, followed by things that he will not do for love. The title phrase repetition emphasizes that he "won't do that". Each time there is a mention of "that" is a directed reference to certain promise that was made earlier in the verse.

At some point the poem transforms into a duet coda which represents the relationship from the woman’s point of view she asks her man to fix everything for her which he answers in the affirmative.

In addition, at the poems conclude that the female predicts two other things that the male will do: "You'll see that it's time to move on" and "You'll be screwing around". Referring to both of these, the man emphatically responds, "I won't do that! There is ambiguity in the poem of “that” that are all the great things the man will do the good and the bad things. Puzzle is also noted in this poem but they are all big things. 'I won't stop doing beautiful things and I won't do bad things'. This is a very noble thing to do by all men.

She is very bitter about the cheating man and this is explained in verse one where she says that right now he’s probably with a “bleach-blonde" girl, buying her a drink, shooting pool, dancing, and having a lot of hope to "get lucky" with the beautiful girl. To take her vengeance on him, she performs several actions that relate tolaw-breaking including vandalizing his four-wheel drive vehicle that is customized by using a key to scratch its side, carving the name of the girl into its leather seats and smashing the car's headlights using a Louisville baseball bat. She insists in the chorus that this will make him "think before he cheats" again on her
