These relations are based on moral and ethical principles applied to medical profession in general. The main ethical principles are justice, patience, fair treatment, sense of responsibility and moral values (Jonsen et al 2007). Ethical leadership requires the acceptance of strict moral rules, the adjustment to new situations, and the recognition of opportunity. The team possesses more information than any one individual so the whole team is in a better position to evaluate ideas than is the leader. Objectivity is another of the ground rules for medical membership, and is a topic in which team members should be schooled. Subordinates should be taught to act more objectively and to sort out personality issues from substantive issues. Rather than worrying, team members are more productive if they concentrate objectively on the issues at hand. When evaluation becomes necessary, the entire team should participate. In contrast to previous decades, modern Medical Assistants are responsible for communication and interaction with patients and legal consequences of their actions. The 21st century requires that Medical Assistants be well aware of ethical rules and moral values. Agreement may or may not represent the majority. In the final analysis, Medical Assistants should agree to support the decision even though employees may still disagree with some aspects of it. Many times, agreement assigned for Medical Assistants represents cooperation and interaction. Cooperation may come after working through conflicting ideas. Medical Assistants should not be forced to compromise their ideas just because they are tired of talking about the subject. Medical Assistants should defend minority opinions and viewpoints and support and stimulate creative solutions (Jonsen et al 2007). A continuing leadership task challenges the team to work through conflicting ideas. For proper medical and social conduct, these ethical standards and values must be shared by not only Medical Assistants but by the total medical community and society as a whole. In simple terms it basically mandates Medical Assistants to treat others as they themselves would like to be treated.

I picked the topic of legal and ethical principles in medicine because ethical rules and moral standards, as a crucial part of profession, require careful consideration and analysis. Clear goals and high-performance expectations are at the heart of the Medical Assistant’s task--independent of his or her style. If the leader sets high performance standards, chances are that the goal will be reached. Teams that constantly expect more of themselves perform at higher levels. The Medical Assistant in collaboration with physicians can help resolve conflicts, but evaluating--including rejecting or promoting ideas--is out of bounds (Jonsen et al 2007). Within rehabilitation, there has been increased recognition of the parallels between primary care delivery models and the comprehensive care provided to individuals with disability in rehabilitation settings (Jonsen et al 2007).
