Although masculinity involves a sense of responsibility, it is not as strong as it is in femininity. It is the caring instinct and abilities that accompany femininity that made Anne sacrifice her dream to take care of Marilla. Certainly, the reckless, highly tempered teenage Anne would not have shown such a great amount of responsibility and sacrifice.
