This is because social responsibility is closely associated with moral development of an individual. The facet of being socially responsible goes hand in hand with being ethically and morally upright. Socially responsible person will posses some characteristics which distinguish them from persons with low morals (Sosik, 2006). As a result one is supposed to be capable of looking beyond their personal interests and instead include the interests of others in the everyday problems he or she faces (Sosik, 2006).

The aspect of social reasoning can not be left out when looking at social responsibility. Sosik (2006) says that understanding the range of perspective taking can help one to advance to higher levels of moral development. According to Sosik (2006) it is important to note that high levels of moral reasoning are typical for the development of socially responsible individuals. Being perceived as a caring and compassionate teacher enhances an individuals ability to coach and mentor the others (Sosik, 2006). These individuals should show a character of being pro-social, altruistic and caring because social responsibility is other-oriented. Sosik (2006) says that one benefit of being socially responsible is the network of connections with the resources and opportunities that emerge from partnering with other on important social projects.

In his studies May (1996) indicated that socially responsible individuals are attentive and sensitive to the social conditions of their communities either large or small. He continues to say that in order to be considered as a socially responsible person one in no obligation should have feature of being attentive, sensitive and responsive to the social world within which he or she inhabits. May (1996) says that social responsibility does not involve a maximization of the available policy. At the same time attentiveness to social consequences is one of the main parts of the social responsibility. Doing good deeds is attached to genuine good doers. According to Coplin (1999) doing good is associated with those individuals who work towards achieving a level playing field for all the members of the society. These types of people do this in many ways but this is dependent upon their place in the society, their interests and capabilities (Coplin, 1999). The motive behind doing good should not be based upon personal benefits or some hidden personal interest. Coplin (1999) in his studies says that the good test for determining whether or not an individuals actions can be classified as doing good depends n whether the individual helps one or more individuals to have a better chance for a long and healthy life, freedom of choice and expression and also provide ample opportunities to pursue their own happiness (Coplin, 1999). This can be the basis on which good doers are measured against.

In order for someone to be viewed in the class of a good doer he or she should be able to attach different priorities to the goals or the good of the society. In this context Coplin (1999) said that it is important to note that doing good is an inherently uncertain activity and as a result ambiguity cannot be avoided if one wants to make a difference in the society. Individuals associated with doing good will not purpose to harm others in the society. To fit in this category one is obliged to respect the diversity of different cultures in the society and embrace the foundation of a democratic society (Coplin 1999).

Being a better person is an inward driven attribute. One can only be helped to a certain level to become a better person. The key feature in becoming a better person is based on increasing our levels of moral development by becoming ore involved in industrial, community, political, national and global organizations that interest someone (Sosik, 2006). Sosik (2006) says that when we see ourselves within the larger social context of history, geography, and world cultures and then reflect upon how we fit into an expanded view of things we can develop pathways and expand our moral reasoning towards becoming better people.

In his further studies, Sosik (2006) continues to say that in order to focus in the direction of becoming a better person one should treat herself out of t he comfort zone acquaintance. This can be attained by doing things such as visiting places or organizations that one would will feel comfortable in (Sosik, 2006). Besides this one should be ready to learn new things and articulate them with real life situations.

Helping those in need is one characteristic of showing love. To be able to help those with need we must understand that it comes with being human and for that reason we must love and be kind to others (Sosik, 2006). We must posses the capacity to navigate the through the often disorderly social waters in our society (Sosik, 2006). Kindness comes first when helping those in need. Sosik (2006) says that individuals who value humanity and help others demonstrate liberality, nurturance, sympathy and selfless love. Sosik (2006) says that those who help others do favors and good deeds for others, mind of them and assist them. Sosik also argues that “kindness has been linked to a variety of helping behaviors including volunteerism and its correlates of mental and physical health” (2006 p.47).

In conclusion a socially responsible person will strive to develop good morals. He or she will always purpose to become a better person by helping those in need and do good. The category of people who posses these characteristics are viable of being leaders in the community or in the organization they serve. This is because the characteristics of a good leader are that he or she should have moral standing which is based on those four qualities.
