Free «The Dejeuner and the Death of the Heroic Landscape» Essay Sample

In “The Dejeuner and the Death of the Heroic Landscape” weredescribed the ways of viewing on art, body and beauty in the works of popular Modernist, Manet, during the Renaissance period of the XIX century. This short article focused on bathing, naked feminine beauty and sensuality, and heroic landscapes were represented as visceral art. Manet described naked women in many pictures, for e.g. Birth of Venus, Surprised Nymph, who were connected with combination of bathers and were displayed in classical and biblical versions.

“Real allegory” was shown in Manet’s early works, particular in Fishing at St. Ouen, thatconveyed the solemn tradition and modernity as the most personal and pastiched painting of the Renaissance epoch. Manet’s late bathers were different from the early ones, and were introduced through relaxation, charm, evanescence and transparency of modern life.

Artist reflected dual representation in landscapes empirically and synthetically. Heroic and historical landscapes were described as idealized nature and transcendent harmony, in spatially illusionistic way, deliberately flattened figures penetrating the mysterious depth, for example, in the scene of The Ancient City of Agricentum. Beautiful quintessence of nature embodied in traditional landscape’s paintings, where natural uniqueness and singularity of work impressed us with contemporary representations in Western art.

“Natural history of art” by John Onians presents earlier human types, Homo sapiens, who lived 35,000 years ago. Behaviors in neuropsychology and neurobiology were illustrated in hominid ancestors. Representation of female body is explained in the same way in the earliest art. Evolution and emergence of prehistoric art was shown in this article. People’s skills in drawing were introduced since Paleolithic period. Later, Greeks acquired banks of neurons in the field of brain, what as a result, led to creation of a new type of architectural environment in Egyptian art. Greeks were interested in geometry and optical naturalism. Some examples of the effect of individual biological mechanisms were presented here.
