A Democratic Country

Democracy refers to a state of government in which all people have equal rights and say in decisions that affect their lives and matters shaping the society as whole (Leslie, 77). In a democratic country, all citizens express their opinions and views through direct participation in matters that affect their lives, for instance, political activities, economic policies and development and government investment decisions. Democracy also entails involving the citizens in the formulation of a country’s governing laws. According to Held, the theory or democracy requires that it is the people who should rule the nation and not the nation ruling the people (Held, 54).

In my own view, democracy would lead to citizens having equivalent economies. This shall be achieved through equitable distribution of wealth amongst them. The citizens shall have the power to persuade wealth distribution policies that takes into consideration every member of the society. This shall lead to improved lifestyles and less social pressure, which consequently, would result into a longer lifespan. The people shall also enjoy benefits of social amenities such as quality healthcare services, high standards of education and improved national security. Similarly, democracy shall permit citizens to formulate legislative laws that they want to govern them. This contrasts the principles of communism, totalitarianism and autocracy in which such laws are imposed onto the people, with or without their consent (Held, 67).

I would prefer a democratic country because it often permits feedbacks from the society. The citizens usually communicate back to the government by expressing their opinions on affairs affecting them. By relying on such information, the government can easily and harmoniously implement its leadership policies in line with society expectations and preferences, thus can achieve its political and economic goals and objectives.

Equality in a democratic society allows for effective administration of legislations, unlike communism and totalitarianism where there might be rebellion against the vanguard party due to extreme dictatorship and tyranny (Cernak, 102).  Likewise, equity in distribution of resources ensures that a country’s wealth is not held by a few individual who are in power. This consequently leads to reduced gap between the rich and the poor. In contrast, communism has specific strategies and administrative bodies that are individualized purposely to control and manage wealth. The wealth is thus distributed based on individual or group needs. Others do not have tangible sets of revolutionary strategies and hence cannot figure out proper modes of wealth distribution (Acemo%u011Flu & Robinson, 78). This usually leads to disparities in social status and higher levels of poverty amongst citizens. Thus, in my opinion, I would not advocate for communism form of government.

In a democratic country, there shall be self determination and full capacity for participation in government activities. This involvement usually acts as a motivation to the people in development activities, and hence equitable regional development throughout a country. The motivated citizens will work hard towards attainment of high living standards and improved social welfare.

Economically, communism may lead to distortion of market prices of goods and services, and to some extend even complete omission of price signals (Slavoj, 92). This may adversely affect the demand and supply of goods and services. Suppliers may charge high prices to compensate for losses incurred due to government’s price distortions, thus causing inflation and high cost of living. In a democratic economy, government’s involvements in market forces are minimized and hence less or no direct impact on the market policies.

According to Lansford, communism was responsible for the thousands of deaths experienced in many communist states after the Cold War of 1947 and 1991. Most anti-communists argue that it was directly responsible for countless problems of the 20th Century these communist states, for instance, the use of a secret police force that was applied by Felix Dzerzhinsky to eliminate and cleanse out political opponents. Similarly, rebels of the Kronstadt and Tambov’s totalitarianism systems were equally killed brutally (Lansford, 57). These are enough evidence that both communism and totalitarianism systems of government are not fit for the society. I would conclude that democracy stands out to be the best form of government, where citizens can exercise their rights and express their freedoms without censorship.
