“Good health is above wealth.” It is a saying well-known to everybody. At the beginning of the 18th century people started inventing new methods of non-traditional treatment. In terms of bad ecological conditions and low level of birth, the federal government of the USA has succeeded in creating the initiative Healthy people 2020, opening National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) and Committee on Patient Safety.
In the first place, the initiative Healthy People 2020 provides a compound system of 10-year national goals and objectives for improving health of all Americans. It is divided into 42 topic areas that contain practically 600 objectives that provide 1,200 measures. Fewer objectives, called Leading Health Indicators (LHI), have been selected to survey high-priority health issues and actions that can be taken to address them (Healthy people 2020, 2010). In 2012, each month the U.S. population will be interviewed on one of the LHI topics. Leading Health Indicators have been created to be used at the national, state and community levels to improve health of the U.S. population, to raise the level of birth in the country, and prevent an influence of stress on people. Except this initiative the Federal Government may provide new centers of CAM for different agencies – from private to governmental. There will be trainings and special courses for children and adults on complementary and alternative medicine. In such case this sphere of health care will become effective and useful among the population and people will become interested in it. Such trainings and courses will help to raise morale and bring harmony between body and soul of people.

In the second place, the federal government established NCCAM. CAM (complementary and alternative medicine) is a great number of resources that include health systems, technics and practices and their accompanying theories and beliefs of the current period of time (Institute of Medicine, 2005). Complementary and alternative medicine is used nowadays as a good method to improve nation`s health. National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine was established in October 1998. NCCAM is the Federal Government`s leading agency in the sphere of alternative and complementary medicine. It was established to provide scientific research to prove the usefulness and safety of complementary and alternative medicine interventions. NCCAM is one of the 27 institutes and centers that collaborate with the National Institutes of Health (NIH). These institutes are the part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which provide different kinds of scientific researches, such as advancing scientific research, training CAM researchers, sharing news and information, supporting integration of proven CAM therapies. Most of the researches done by this center showed inefficiency of alternative and complementary medicine. Nevertheless NCCAM continues to make researches in CAM usage. NCCAM includes 18 members, 9 of which support complementary and alternative medicine (NCCAM, 2003). In 2007, the National Institute of Health`s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NIH NCCAM) conducted a survey. The results of this survey have shown the increase in the number of users of alternative and complementary medicine: 38% among adults and 11% among children (Complementary and Alternative Medicine Survey of Hospitals, 2011). Today such therapies as acupuncture, massage therapy and homeopathy are widely used in the U.S.A., even among the followers of traditional medicine. A negative impact of scientific methods of treatment has shown increase of Institutes of CAM. Individual scientists, organizations and other communities have become concerned of people’s distrust to them. When one group of people see that acupuncture and massage therapy are effective, they advise it to their familiar people and in this way CAM becomes popular.
In the third place, Committee on Patient Safety was created by the Food and Drug Administration in 2002. The main aim of this organization is to promote effective strategies to prevent adverse medication effects. The Committee on Patient Safety was established mainly to create safety issues and develop a series of publications with American Psychiatric Association (Lake J. & Spiegel D., 2007). To promote the efficacy and use of CAM the federal government may provide separate discipline “Complementary and Alternative Medicine” to explain different topics in this sphere of health care. American Psychiatric Association established this organization to protect patients from unwanted impact of scientific and traditional kinds of treatment. It is also one of the examples how the Federal Government promotes the efficacy and use of CAM. Media and radio may become good methods of spinning complementary and alternative medicine.
To sum up, Healthy people 2020 is an effective initiative established by the Federal Government to be touched with changes in the hot issues of Leading Health Indicators. NCCAM provides different kinds of researches that make population of the U.S.A. interested in complementary and alternative medicine. Committee on Patient Safety is becoming popular nowadays in the U.S.A. However, creating new health care centers and interviewing people of the U.S.A. may promote the efficacy of CAM.
