Malcolm x showed a lot of concern and commitment to growth and development of the African people who most of the time faced oppression. He was as courageous as to be selfless and offer his services to all regardless of race, ethnicity or commitment that one originated. Malcolm x portrayed the qualities of a true leader in reality. This was actually confirmed with how people liked him. People did so many things to show what value Malcolm x had on them. It is this reason that made Malcolm x a political icon and a leader that will remain in the world history for centuries to come. It is the life that he led and how he managed to come out successful from a life full of difficulties and raging poverty.
Malcolm x started his life Omaha at a place called Nebraska. However, he did not spend a lot of his time at the place. He spent most of life in Lansing, Michigan and later on went to live in the ghettos of Boston, Detroit and New York. Malcolm x spent his younger years in a very compromising state. He faced poverty, lack of morality and violence coupled together. He was actually a child who lived like a man having to provide for his own basic needs. He lived a life that to many only the strong could survive. His father was murdered when he was young. This is because he was an organizer for the Marcus Garvey universal improvement association that fought for the liberation of Africans and their rights as well. Being a black man, the whites saw this as a threat and could not take chances with him. So they decided to eliminate him. Malcolm x had to survive with a single parent who struggled very much to outwit the troubles they had (Terrill, 2010).
Malcolm x decide to get into crime as a way of making up for the mess that he was in. In the crime scene, he was nick named Detroit red. He became a pimp, drug dealer and a hooligan. Malcolm was not a criminal but was made a criminal by the very system that was criminal. He directed his frustration at the antisocial behavior that was directed against other victims of oppression. This made him change in to an agent for genocide exploitation, destruction and death originating from abused citizens.
It is imperative to note that Malcolm was only responding to the system's inadequacy and inefficiency in safeguarding all of its population. He became a hustler who had to fend for him in a system that failed to provide African American citizens with economic and political empowerment.
He eventually landed in to prison as a result of his participation in crime. This is the place that experienced the true talent from Malcolm x. instead of looking at the prison as a negative place. He instead took it as a place to sharpen his vital skill. He turned penitentiary to a classroom. Malcolm x had not gotten a chance to sit down and study effectively. It was at this time when he was in prison that he red all the books that he saw as important. He mastered and learnt all the words that were in Webster's dictionary at that time. This showed that Malcolm x was a very bright individual. It is in this prison that Malcolm changed from a criminal person to an individual who was an agent for the black people liberation (Ivers, 2003).
He joined Islam under the supervision of the honorable Elijah Muhammad. Elijah was a recognizable force in the transformation of Malcolm little from Detroit red to Malcolm x. Malcolm x became a staunch Islam and firmly articulated the back nationalist philosophy. He became a freedom fighter who is emulated up to date especially by the African Americans.
Malcolm was of the view that any form of liberation should star from the self. One should first appreciate who he or she is in a healthy way. He encouraged the black people to stop depending on their oppressors for their economic, cultural and political freedom. Thus, black people were needed to use their own personal resources starting with the self.
Malcolm x emphasized that for the blacks to be successful then the first step towards success should be to know who they are and where they came from. In essence, he encouraged black people to study their own history. This was to help the Africans know of their contribution to human development, and a vital reason was to know how other subjugated people got their freedom.

He emphasized on the importance of the blacks to control the territory that they were forced to live in. this was the first step towards getting independence. He was also a pan Africanist. He appreciated African people and their culture.

Malcolm x was a leader who worked as an activist for black liberation in America. He faced a very hard and harsh life growing up as a kid. This contributed to his growth as one of the world's memorable Black Nationalist human rights and liberation activist. Malcolm x awakened African Americans from the oppression they faced to people who understood their rights and freedom. He was later murdered by assassins in 1965, February the 21st at the age of thirty nine in Harlem.
