A coat of arm is a representation of a family which in other words is termed as a smaller social unit with a distinct identity while a national emblem is a graphic representation of a nation that mostly picks up natural things like birds or animals that the specific country associates with. It should be noted that this are only symbolic images that represent a deeper meaning well understood by the residents of a country.

The Vietnamese government uses the national emblem of Vietnam as their official symbol since the year 1995. This emblem was created from an original earlier version that became the national emblem of Vietnam. It is used as the official symbol for government documents, coins and notes. Additionally it also represents the nation in international community. Its design is a combination of the effort of two painters namely Bui Trang Chuoc and Tran Van Can (Retrieved: answers.yahoo.com 2006). Later on Tran Van Can modified it to the emblem that is being used today.

The Vietnam emblem is made up of several common symbols of the economy and society of Vietnam that is related to the flag and the anthem. It has a round shape with red as the main color that forms the background while the coat of arms is squared in shape with a yellow background and three red stripes. Additionally, the coat of arms has a blue dragon at the centre. The dragon is a symbol of good luck, strength, royalty, nobility, royalty, wisdom and the future (Bo%u0323%u0302 ngoa%u0323i giao, 22). The Vietnamese believe that the dragon is a symbol of hope. It is also a symbol of the strength that they had and still have to date. On the other hand the big star on the top centre is a sign of socialist regime that was led by the communists in Vietnam. Furthermore, the star is a remembrance of the epic history of the country and the solidarity of the Vietnamese people and shows the bright future of the society under the leadership of the ruling party. The five points of the star is also a representation of the peasants, soldiers, workers, merchants and the intellectuals that were found in Vietnam. These are the people who helped bring the revolution that is seen today in Vietnam. The emblem has writings speaking out loudly the country Vietnam which is a representation of the country while the coat of arms has no writings on it. This symbol has rice water shoots that represent the agriculture and the industrial labor the Vietnam people. The allegory puts emphasis on the essential combination of the two zones namely the socialist republic of Vietnam and the political regime of Vietnam (Smith, 15). The yellow color used in these emblems represents the color of the society of Vietnam. The yellow colors on both the coat of arms and the national emblem are a representation of the people of Vietnam.

The red color in the background is a recollection of the French revolution of the past and is a representation of the present societal revolution. Additionally, it refers to the blood that was sacrificed by the many soldiers of Vietnam who fought in the fights against invaders (Vietnam culture: Retrieved 2011). The three arrows found on the coat of arms represent the tools that the people of Vietnam used during their fight.

In conclusion, these two emblems are important in the history and the people of Vietnam. This is because it brings and encourages the people Vietnam of where they have come from and where they are going. Moreover, it reminds them of the tribulations and jubilations they went through before they reached wherever they are. All in all the Vietnamese coat of arms and the national emblem represent the culture and lifestyle of the people of Vietnam.
