The theory of global warming is one of the most common themes of the XXI century. The media, environmentalists, politicians and scientists are constantly discussing this topic.  New apocalypse theories associated with global warming emerge from time to time. Everyone has probably heard about global warming from the media.  Most people believe that this phenomenon is triggered by the increase in the average atmosphere temperature.

According to the statements of some scientists, temperature increase in its turn is caused by growing concentrations of carbon dioxide and methane in the air. It is often taken for granted that the air pollution is a product of human activity: household waste combustion, industrial and exhaust emissions. As a result, the average temperature has risen by 0.7° F since the middle of 18th century (the start of industrial revolution). It would seem than we clutter up our minds with trivialities. But, the case is that the bulk of the temperature rise occurred in the recent 50 years.

The humanity became aware of global warming issue a few decades ago.  All began upon a framework convention on climate change. Its essence comes down to the development of the international community action plan directed at combating the consequences of global warming, which is believed to be caused by heavy human activity.

Scientists cannot reach a consensus on the causes of climate change. In actual fact, they distinguish two significant causes of global warming: human activity and solar activity. As you can see the score is 1 to 1. In such a manner, there is a strong possibility that not only humanity provokes warming. Natural causes can also trigger the abovementioned process. Although, who knows?  Are we really in the era of global warming?

Figures give an answer. The temperature has increased by 2.5° F in the southwest Antarctic and the Antarctic Peninsula for the past half century. Since the early 1970s, the temperature of ever frozen soil has increased by 1.0° F in Western Siberia, in the central Yakutia - by 1.5° F. The temperature of permafrost top layer has increased by 3° F in Northern Alaska since the middle of 1980s (Houghton, 2004).

Facts speak for themselves and numbers never lie. The humanity is within a hair's-breadth of disaster. However, hackers broke into the website of the University of East Anglia and released all documents online. They interpreted the context of stolen information in their own way. A general idea implied an unbelievable fact. Global warming is a scientific hoax and pure imagination of liberals. The information created a furor. On the one hand, public wants to know the truth and on the other hand, billions of dollars are invested in the global warming projects.

As a result, an interesting theory came into being. Scientists falsify data as they fear to lose grants for their projects. One of the disclosed letters contained the following text: “I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline” (Pearce, 2010).

But along with this, it is not clear what decline is meant. Do scientists falsify data to achieve the desired result? Do they try to make a computer model fit their hypothesis? No one knows for sure. Representatives of the University of East Anglia said that they do not intend to comment on the published documents. According to the administration, all the quotes in the letters are probably taken out of the context.

It is possible that some data is falsified. So, how to explain all visible changes in nature? All this should be clarified. For this purpose, a few possible theories should be examined. The first one deals with ablation. Do you know what happens to the melted Arctic and Antarctic ice? Fresh water falls into the ocean. Afterwards such streams as the Gulf Stream carry warm water from the equator to the northern hemisphere hence making contribution to the formation of a moderate climate. Dissolution of ice causes demineralization of WorldOcean, water density variation and reduces streams’ power. In other terms, less heat from the equator will reach the northern hemisphere. As a result, global warming can lead to global cooling.

However this is not all the consequences of ablation. Sea level rise is also considered to be among the possible threats. Great number of countries can lose either part or all the territory. Countries situated at the coasts and lowlands can become the bottom of the World Ocean. If you look at the physical map of the world, you will easily determine what may happen to the East Coast of America, Canada, Mexico, Britain, France and other countries situated at the lowlands.

Scientists suppose that climate will change drastically in the measurable future. Hurricanes, tsunamis, floods and droughts will be of frequent occurrence. People would not be able to grow crop in territories where it grew before due to the change in precipitation pattern. The supply of fresh water may decrease. What is next? Dismal prediction is waiting for humanity: famine, turf war and struggle for survival. In addition, an extinction of animals and plants species will grow (Farrar, 2008).

Some scientists believe that global warming is directly related to the fact that the population of our planet has increased by 30% over the last 30 years. The planet can not withstand the growing appetite of humanity. The following chain vividly demonstrates scientists’ explanations. Population growth leads to the consumption expansion. Increase in production is needed in order to supply the crying wants of the people.  However, the expansion of production in its turn leads to emission growth that causes greenhouse effect and ablation.

Among all scientists, there are those who say that global warming occurs periodically as a natural phenomenon, which is not triggered by human activity. The climate of our planet depends on the periodical increase and decrease of solar activity. According to scientists’ statement, the Sun began to radiate more energy in comparison with the previous years. In addition, an argument is adduced. Astronomers discovered the melting of polar caps on Mars and Jupiter. What does it signify? So, it means that the heating of the entire solar system occurs (Houghton, 2004). The periodicity of the climate change is at the mercy of the Sun. As a result, the humanity is in no way to blame.

The advocates of this viewpoint believe that the theory of global warming is a collusive agreement of politicians, academics and businessmen. They forestalled scenario for their own profit, completely thought out it and very successfully implemented across the globe. The representatives of the fist theories are convinced that humanity should reduce the level of industrial production or resort to the alternative energy sources, which do not emit CO2 into the atmosphere. In such a manner we can cease the ablation process in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, thereby sea level rise and floods. The humankind is responsible for everything that happens on the planet. That is why we are obliged to protect our planet and its future.

The question under consideration is a highly controversial issue. Nobody can give an unambiguous answer. However, most scientists support the version of the global warming. Taking into consideration both viewpoints and the most common theories, I am inclined to think that global warming is rather reality than myth.
