James Naismith, an educator, physician and a Canadian clergy was the man who invented the game, in December 1891. He introduced the game at young men's Christian association training school (now known as Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts. The team members were nine, and the first game was played using a soccer ball. The wooden goals were fixed on the walls. Towards the end of 1890s, the number of players standardized to five. The Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) men's basketball squad   played the Tennessee State team in McBrayer Arena. The colonels won the game by 86 to 72 with Spencer Perrin and Justin Stommes marking a career high and a season best respectively. Kenny Moore of Tennessee State led his teammates with a career high of 25 points. The game was very exciting with each team making good use of their chances, but EKU's coach tactics carried the day. Eastern Kentucky started the game on a high note leading by 21-9 by six minutes of the game. The Tigers bridged the gap to 36-34 and took its first lead a moment later by 47-45, but this was sort lived because they gave Colonels chance to lead for good. Their first encounter saw the Tigers holding the Colonels to a season low (Eastern Kentucky University, 2011).

Conclusion

It is the sports that EKU values most and prepare to win a pair of the OVC games. Basketball has revolutionized sport industries to the extent of producing rich sports men compare to other sports disciplines.
